
Wish Me Luck
For this project, I redesigned the logo of a tattoo shop, Wish Me Luck, and created a brand guide for the business. In my process of designing the logo, I wished to represent the roots of the business in the logo. Wish Me Luck is Chicago’s first queer, trans, and black-owned tattoo shop, and the shop specializes in American Traditional style tattoos. The finalized logo reflects the shop’s Chicagoan roots and tattoo origins.
Process
My process in creating this logo involved sketching, researching, designing, and iterating. Throughout the process of making the logo, I found ways to make the logo more authentic to Wish Me Luck, by incorporating American Traditional imagery and Chicagoan roots into the logo. My initial sketches for the logo involved imagery that matched the words “Wish” and “Luck” and played upon designs common in tattooing.
For my first round of digital sketches, I stuck to the shape of a horseshoe surrounding the logotype, inspired by traditional tattoo imagery. After critique, however, I found that my horseshoe resembled other shapes, such as a magnet, and the design wasn’t distinguishable as an American Traditional design. I then went back to research to assist me in redesigning the logo.

Finalizing the Logo
Following Round 2 of my digital sketches, I began finalizing the logo design. I developed the color palette for the logo by researching color palettes for American Traditional tattooing and incorporating the design of the Chicago flag.
Lastly, I developed various versions of the logo for various uses of the logo.
