UT Austin:
Dean of Students
As a graphic designer at the Office of the Dean of Students (@utdeanofstudents), I worked on designing content for social media, digital formats, and print materials. Though I designed under University branding, the Dean of Students has 9 units total, so my projects covered various topics and styles. While planning for the Dean of Students, I worked to develop the designs for campaigns and events, as well as the brand guidelines for digital and print media.
Multi-Media Campaigns
Media campaigns at the Dean of Students covered a range of formats. Content created for these campaigns includes Instagram posts and stories, Hornslink images, A-frames, flyers, banners, handouts, and gator boards. Alongside creating graphics for campaigns, I worked with the communications team to develop more consistent standards for the Office of the Dean of Students social media accounts—our main point of contact for students. Creating these standards strengthened the brand identity of the Office of the Dean of Students in our digital media, making it more consistent and accessible for our audience, and streamlined the design of these graphics.
Carousels
More often than not, media campaigns under the Dean of Students utilized Instagram carousels to convey extensive information in one Instagram post. While working at the Dean of Students, I developed interactive carousel posts- each specified for their content.
Deliverables
Many of the campaigns I designed included printed promotional
materials, including a-frames, flyers, signage, business cards, and more. Additional deliverables include t-shirts and stickers. While working on these deliverables, I researched the preferences of aesthetics and content for the audience that my products would reach. Alongside the communications team, I participated in conducting studies on illustration style and merchandise to determine what visual styles appealed to our target audience.
Brand Identity
As the Dean of Students has a large variety of units, one challenge in my role as a graphic designer was managing brand consistency. One of the sub-units of the Dean of Students, UT Outpost (@utoutpost), a free food pantry and career closet for UT Students, required a rebrand across the pantry’s Instagram and signage. While at the Dean of Students, I developed a brand guide for UT Outpost’s social media accounts and rebranded their in-store signage.
